Science-fiction obsessed electronic jazz artist Onyx Ashanti will bring his self-created style of beatjazz to Memphis on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013. The lecture-demonstration and performance will be at Five in One, 423 North Watkins Street, Memphis, TN at 7 p.m.
Beatjazz is a live, completely improvised form of electronic music that is created by a one-of-a-kind musical instrument Ashanti calls a “beatjazz controller.” Featured on Ted.com, Ashanti’s controller, which includes a helmet, hand controllers, and a breath controller, helps him perform music with motion and breath, and was the result of 20 years of conceptualization and invention. Ashanti plays one part at a time, and eventually builds a sonic-architecture.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased on Eventbrite or at the door.
